The terms of the store you download the app from also apply to the app. If you download MetaQuiet from the App Store, Apple’s standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement applies in addition to these terms.
What MetaQuiet does
MetaQuiet shows supported metadata in your files and creates a separate copy with supported metadata removed. Processing happens on your device. Which formats and fields are supported, and what stays in a file, is described under Supported formats in the app and on this website.
Removing metadata does not make a file anonymous. Visible content such as faces, text, signs or addresses in an image, the text of a document and the file name are not changed. Some technical data needed to display a file correctly is kept. Check the clean copy before you share it.
Licence
You may use MetaQuiet for private and professional purposes. We grant you a simple, non-transferable right to use the app on devices you control. You may not resell the app, remove our notices from it or reverse engineer it except where the law allows this. Open source components are licensed under their own terms, listed in the third-party notices.
Early access and Pro
During early access MetaQuiet is free and has no usage limit. Nothing is sold in the app today.
When Pro launches, people who started using MetaQuiet during early access keep Pro at no cost. We confirm eligibility through the App Store or Google Play record of the account used to install the app, as described in our privacy policy.
If paid features are offered later, they will be sold only through the App Store or Google Play. The store shows the price, any renewal terms and your cancellation options before you buy. Separate purchase terms will apply then.
Your responsibility
- Only process files you are allowed to use.
- Do not remove copyright or licence information from works of others where the law prohibits this.
- Do not use MetaQuiet to break the law or to violate the rights of others.
- Keep backups of important files. MetaQuiet never overwrites your original, but no software is free of errors.
Availability and changes
We develop MetaQuiet further and may change, add or remove features. Because the app is free, there is no right to a particular feature or to continued availability. Files already on your device remain yours and stay usable.
Liability
We are liable without limitation for intent and gross negligence, for injury to life, body or health, under the German Product Liability Act and where we have given a guarantee.
Because MetaQuiet is provided free of charge, we are otherwise not liable for slight negligence. For loss of data we are liable only for the effort needed to restore it from regular backups.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms, for example when features or the law change. We will announce material changes on this website or in the app. The date at the top shows the current version.
Law and disputes
German law applies, excluding the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods. If you are a consumer and live in another country, the mandatory consumer protection rules of that country still apply to you.
We are neither obliged nor willing to take part in dispute resolution proceedings before a consumer arbitration board.
If a provision of these terms is invalid, the other provisions remain in force.
